At the Southern Classic I met Jean xxxx, who raced as a passenger in Europe in the 50 -60's and Max Hooper mentioned he met a bloke at a hose place who had raced outfits in the 70's. They are everywhere.

So the new idea is to have a Saturday evening dinner with a speaker or similar in Melbourne and invite any sidecar partcipant past and present.

Ron Marten thought it was great so the HMRAV and the Sidecar Club of Vic will work on the plan.
I hope MV also get involved.

It may take 6 months or so to get organised but who is up for the modified plan

Who is interested please?

The plan now;
Date; 6 June 2009

Have you been involved in racing a sidecar, if so you are most welcome to come to an annual gathering to brag, listen and encourage sidecar racing.

Retired and currently active teams from any discipline are invited to meet and greet on 6th June 2009

The function will be managed by the management committees of Road race and Historic.

The venue is the Oakleigh Bowling club, Drummond St., Oakleigh just 1 km south of the Monash Freeway,
Commencing at 7pm and continuing until 11pm with drinks available at discounted prices from the bar.
Finger food will come later and we expect a good time will be had by all.

We have guest speakers with some videos in the background.
$8 per head with a single drink card if paid prior to the event.
$10 a head at the door.

Prepayments with credit card can be done via email, phone or mail.
Race Marshals are especially  welcome to attend as well.

Below are copies of the POSTER and if you can print it and spread it around that will be great.
The PRE PAYMENT FORM is the second attachment.
Pre booking will help us manage the event.

PROMOTED BY THE HISTORIC MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE OF VICTORIA

The date is 6 JUne 2009 at the Oakleigh Bowling Club, Logies and Drummond Sts Oakleigh.

We have 45 acceptances so far so I am pretty happy with the way things are moving along.

Please feel welcome to attend and perhaps let us know if you are coming for catering purposes.
Thanks

Modesty prevents me from saying the night was FANTASTIC, ask any of the 60 people who attended.
We got 3 speakers to tell stories at 8.45pm and we could not stop people getting up and telling stories until about 11.25pm.

The only cock up was not supplying a supper, but since only a few rang and told us they were coming we were not happy purchasing $400 of food.
The idea to get pizzas in future was floated because we can order what we need.

Anyway it was voted to hold one each year.
Planning has already started, I called Max Hooper to ask him to track down Barry Thompson who attended and raced a Rennsport in Europe in the 1960's. I want to document his stories.

So the hall will be booked again, I need to fit in with the racing calendar to get as many along as is possible and then we shall get set for an even bigger event.

All disciplines were present and whilst the road rcae were the majority there is scope for the Moto Xers to get along as well as more speedway blokes.

If you want to help contavt myself, 03 9888 4387 or John Feakes.
